White Pine County, the City of Ely, the towns of Baker, McGill, or Lund are terrific places to call home for you, your family, or your business.

Things to see and do in White Pine County

  • Take a trip through downtown Ely to shop or spend some relaxing time gaming at one of the historic casinos.
  • Spend time at a variety of craft and antique shops in Ely, McGill, Lund, Ruth and Baker.
  • Follow the Nevada section of the historical Lincoln Highway and U.S. Highway 50.
  • Take a look at unique, hand-painted murals.
  • Voted Best Ice Cream in the state, Stop for an old-fashioned soda at our local Economy Drug and Old Fashioned Soda Fountain.
  • Visit museums in Ely, McGill, Lund, and Cherry Creek, including the White Pine County Public Museum, the McGill Historical Drugstore, Lund’s Pioneer Museum, and the Cherry Creek Museum.
  • Visit the Renaissance Village's 12 shotgun houses and barn that actually came straight out of Ely’s Old West days. These houses in the village act like a living museum and visitors are allowed to go in and experience fist hand how folks lived at the turn of the century.
  • Feed ducks at the pond at the White Pine County Park.
  • Visit the Ward Mountain Recreation Area and embark on scenic hikes.
  • Fish and camp at Comins Lake or at one of dozens of other special camping areas.
  • Take a swim at the McGill pool, which is fed by a natural spring, or the Aquatic Center indoor pool.
  • Check out the historic mining towns of Ruth. Also, see a real mining ghost town at Hamilton, Belmont, Treasure Hill or Osceola, Lane City, Taylor, or Ward.
  • Work on your swing and play a full 18-hole round of golf at the White Pine Golf and Tennis Club.
     

The Nevada Northern Railway is a National Historic Landmark and is the number one most photographed and filmed location in White Pine County, right here in Central Ely.  Nevada's and the World's best preserved short- line steam locomotives are on display in this living museum. Nothing comes close to the wonder of history, mechanical fortitude, and the majesty of these steam powered behemoths. 

Race the Rails – Mountain bikers and road cyclists take off at the sound of the whistle on their individual courses to see who can be the train. off the top of a mountain where they are timed at specific.
 

Great Basin National Park - Whether visiting for a day or a whole week, Great Basin National Park is only an hour drive from Ely. Take in the majesty of Mount Wheeler, tour the Lehman Caves and enjoy lunch in Baker, Nevada.

 

 

Ward Charcoal Ovens - The Ward Charcoal Ovens served diverse purposes after their function ended as ovens used to process silver ore from 1876-1879. The campground area is located in the nearby cedar trees with hiking, biking and ATV trails leading out in several directions.


 

Garnet Hill Recreation Area - Are you a rock hound? Maybe you like to search for gems and garnets. These minerals can be found with a sharp eye, or a pick ax. Enjoy an afternoon, bring a picnic basket along and enjoy the view while searching for your own treasured souvenir.
 

Tears Fears and Beers, The oldest and largest Enduro race in the country, sets cyclists pedaling off the top of a mountain where they are timed at specific sections of the course. Then it’s down twisty downhills and sprints, where the sum of the times will determine the winner.
 

The Ely Art Bank - A permanent collection of art, sculptures and photos are on display at the Art Bank and Cultural Center. Local artists’ work is on display and for sale. Periodic travel art exhibits are featured throughout the year.
 

Success Loop Scenic Drive - Generally accessible from late April to mid-November this 33 mile loop is one of the most scenic and photographed areas of White Pine. The rugged canyons, steep mountains and forested highlands. High-clearance vehicles are suggested.
 

Silver State Classic Car Challenge -  Catch a car show with most of the cars featured in an open road race from Ely to Las Vegas, and sometimes back. The race is open to anyone who is brave enough, and has a fast car.
